Confirmation InfoConfirmation is one of the sacraments of initiation into the Catholic Church. In Alberta, children are typically baptized as infants, receive first communion in grade 2, and get confirmed in grade 6-8. Confirmation gives us the seal of the Holy Spirit and completes the initiation into the Church! This sacrament is so important that it is administered by a Bishop, and in Sylvan Lake confirmation will take place on May 27, 2017, at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish.
As with all sacraments, Confirmation requires a level of preparation. While other parishes offer their formation as weekly evening classes, we have decided at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish to offer the formation in 2 overnight retreats, supplemented by a few evening sessions. This decision was made because confirmation is not merely the completion of a course in Catholicism, but it is an integral part of a journey with a Catholic Community. The overnight model allows us to create a sense of community and to encounter God in a more significant way in prayer. And part of building community means having fun together, so the retreat format offers better opportunities for things like games and campfires! There will be an important parent meeting on Tuesday, September 13th, at 7:00pm, at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, where we will go over the details of the formation program and the other requirements for confirmation. The confirmation candidate and a parent should attend that meeting. Youth that have not been baptized or received first communion will have the opportunity to get caught up on their sacraments, so all interested parents and youth should attend this meeting! |
